Are you looking for a delicious and hearty meal that’s perfect for the whole family? Look no further! This recipe for ground beef with gravy served over mashed potatoes is a comfort dish that combines simple ingredients with rich, satisfying flavors. Here’s how to prepare this mouthwatering dish.
Ingredients:
For the Mashed Potatoes:
4-5 russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk (more if needed)
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Ground Beef and Gravy:
1 pound lean ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and black pepper to taste
Directions:
Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat and cook the potatoes until they are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter and milk, mashing until smooth and creamy.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Keep warm while preparing the gravy.
Prepare the Ground Beef and Gravy:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to combine. Cook for 2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
Gradually stir in the beef broth, followed by the Worcestershire sauce and dried thyme. Simmer until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Assemble the Dish:
Serve the ground beef and gravy over a generous portion of mashed potatoes. Garnish with additional black pepper if desired.
